Our Herd….
We raise Charolais (pronounced Shar-lay) Cattle. “Charolias cattle are one of the oldest of the French Cattle breeds, and were developed in the district around Charolles in Central France” according to Charolaisusa.com. Charolais have grazed the pastures of Hopeful Acres Farm since the 1970s. Cows in our herd are born and raised on our farm. They are pasture raised, hormone and antibiotic free. Our cattle have continuous access to our pastures where they graze grass. During seasonal drought conditions when grass growth is slow and in the winter we supplement with hay that we produce on the farm, silage (cut and ground corn stalks/ears) that we produce on the farm and feed all of which is produced on the farm and then ground on our farm. Charolais cattle produce lean beef and we never have fat added to our ground beef or anything for that fact. Just as our cattle are raised on our farm they are also processed by a local USDA approved processor.
